Canada Fossils has put together eight of our most popular small fossils in new, ready to hang, packages that makes fossil collecting easy for everyone. These fossils are great for schools and amateur collectors alike. They can turn almost anyone into a "rock hound." Our fossils come in a numbered, high quality box with a lid for easy storage that will protect them for years to come. An information card also accompanies each fossil with a brief history, background and a few questions and answers. The back of each package has a timeline which shows the corresponding age that each fossil came from and how old it roughly is. Canada Fossils now makes it easy to own a piece of history. |

These bone fragments are from Montana, USA. Sizes range from 5 cm to 6 cm. Larger pieces are available. Dinosaur bone can be found in western Canada and in the Maritimes. Some of the oldest bones (over 230 million years) come from Nova Scotia, while some of the most recent (66 million years) come from Alberta. TOPPolished ammonites from Morocco. Sizes range from 5 cm to 6.5 cm. Larger sizes available. Ammonites are the fossilized remains of squid-like animals which existed from 420 million years ago till the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period, 65 million years ago. It is believed that the structure of the shell was strong enough to withstand water pressures down to 500 meters. Trilobites from Morocco. Sizes range from 5 cm. to 6 cm. Trilobites are famous fossils because they were one of the first life forms to have hard body parts which were easily preserved. They were arthropods which rummaged through the mud on the sea floor. This allowed for rapid burial enhancing their chance at fossilization. TOPShark teeth from the USA. Sizes range from 4 cm to 5 cm. Sharks are one of the most enduring of the fishes. Their fossils are found in rocks over 400 million years old. Over these millions of years, they have been able to develop very sophisticated sensory organs, skin and teeth. Tooth shapes vary from species to species and range in size. All teeth are extremely sharp and some are serrated. Fossil fish from Wyoming, USA Fossil fish are found on ancient lake bottoms. When a lake freezes completely to the bottom, there is no life left. Because there are no scavengers, fish fossils are very well preserved, especially if the fish is buried rapidly. TOPPieces of mammoth ivory from the Yukon Territory of Canada. Mammoth tusks are found in the Yukon in gold mines, and along river banks after the spring floods. The estimated age of the tusks is between 10,000 and 30,000 years.
Tumbled petrified wood pieces from Oregon, USA. Petrified wood forms when trees and branches are buried, and the wood cells fill with quartz or calcite minerals. Wood can be very well preserved. Some samples are more than 350 million years old. TOPThese leaf impressions are from Alberta, Canada. They are well preserved on matrix. Larger sizes are available. Most of the leaf impressions are twigs of metasequoia, of the Paleocene period about 60 million years ago. Some deciduous leaves are available. |
